Our first class, Intro to Scrum, on Friday was a success.

When Eric offered to contribute to the MultiUni project, he didn’t have a specific topic in mind.  Having been in the software industry for a long time, having taught many years in Vietnam, Eric has a plethora of subjects to choose from.  Ultimately, he chose to share a topic of great importance to the Vietnam tech community right now: Agile processes, especially Scrum.

At first we lost our intended venue for the course.  But at the last minute, East Agile offered their facilities and even provided food and refreshments.  Thanks to Lawrence Sinclair for that.

We did a lot of marketing for this lecture to make sure that as many people had an opportunity to attend.  Special thanks to the following people for their marketing efforts: Nguyen Bao Chau, Chip, Khanh Le, Le Viet Hong, Chip and Huy Zing.

As a result, we ended up with many more applications to the class than we had capacity for. We’re sorry that not everyone who wanted to could come.  But those who could not attend can still check out the lecture slides and handouts on the course page.

In all, we were able to accommodate 28 attendees, our target number.  We had students, professionals, and employers participate.  Next time, we think we could probably handle 40 people at that venue.

We ended up with a very interactive class with interesting and lively discussion, with a number of people sharing their experiences and opinions. Some people offered their expertise with Scrum. Someone mentioned that they use another Agile methodology: Crystal Clear.

The success of this first class is giving us much confidence here at MultiUni that we can do this many times again: organize useful courses for the community for free or close to free.  So expect more courses, workshops, and lectures in the future.
